A Veterans Story

Last night when we got into D.C. after we checked into the hotel we went to see a few monuments. We came to the Lincoln memorial and the Washington monument. After we had took a bunch of pictures as always! We started to walk over to the Vietnam memorial.

Marlee and I were walking with Caleb and as we were walking we passed by a small shop. All it had was military pins and patches and a few different books. It was amazing all the different things they had there. Caleb’s dad was in the Marine so we stopped for him to get his dad something. As we looked at the different things the man behind the counter began to talk to me.

He was telling me a girl that had came up there not long before and talk to him. She had asked him what all the stuff was for.

His reply: It’s for the Veterans

Her reply: That’s stupid

After hearing him tell me this story I could tell he was very upset by this and even more I wanted to go strangle the girl that doesn’t appreciate all the people that make her life what it is.

We kept talking to the man and it bought tears to our eyes to hear him talk and listen to his emotion. He had served in 3 wars, desert storm, Hadi, and opperation Iraq freedom.

In Iraq he was shot twice in his side and was in the hospital for over a month. After that he went into retirement and volunteers his time at the shop were all the money goes to finding POW’s.

As we were talking to him Kendra asked him, what is your proudest moment.

His answer: being out there with all my children…. you know what I mean? My boys….I trained them.

Then we asked his name

Reply: Just call me Sergeant Major
